Product Codes: BVE82CH64, BVE82CH256

BlackVue logo
BlackVue ELITE 8 2CH front and rear 2K dash cam

The BlackVue ELITE 8 2CH is the entry point into the BlackVue ELITE range of dual-channel dash cams, offering front and rear recording at 2K Quad HD (2560x1440) on both channels. Where higher models in the range step up to 4K on the front camera, the ELITE 8 2CH keeps both cameras at the same resolution, giving you consistent image quality front and rear from a matched pair of Sony STARVIS 2 sensors with HDR processing. This symmetry means you always know what to expect from both channels in any incident.

Both cameras record at 2K Quad HD (2560x1440) at 30fps using 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 sensors. HDR balances the exposure across the full frame in challenging lighting conditions - tunnel exits, bright motorway sunshine, and night-time headlight glare - keeping number plates readable on both cameras. HEVC (H.265) compression maintains strong image quality at efficient file sizes. Smart Parking Mode with Power Saving draws under 1mA in standby, protecting your vehicle battery during extended parked sessions while remaining ready to respond to an impact within one second.

The ELITE 8 2CH is compatible with BlackVue Cloud, giving you remote access via the free BlackVue App whenever a Wi-Fi connection is available. For permanent always-on remote connectivity, the optional CM100GLTE external module adds 4G LTE using a standard data SIM of your choice - the module and SIM are sold separately. For buyers who want a 4K front camera, the BlackVue ELITE 9 2CH upgrades the front to 4K UHD at a higher price, and the BlackVue ELITE 10 2CH provides 4K front and rear for the full premium setup.

Choose below whether you would like the ELITE 8 2CH supplied with a 64GB or 256GB BlackVue-approved microSD card when purchased from ActiveGPS.

Dual 2K Quad HD Front and Rear Recording

Both cameras on the ELITE 8 2CH use 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 CMOS sensors recording at 2K Quad HD (2560x1440) at 30fps. The front camera uses an f/1.7 aperture lens covering a 146-degree diagonal field of view (125-degree horizontal, 68-degree vertical). The rear camera uses an f/2.0 lens covering a 142-degree diagonal field of view. Both cameras deliver HDR processing that balances the exposure across the full frame in real time, keeping licence plates readable whether you are driving into bright sunshine, past oncoming headlights, or through a lit car park at night.

Having matched resolution on both channels is a practical advantage. You know the front and rear footage will be comparable in quality, and you do not need to set different quality expectations for incident review from each camera. At 2K Quad HD, both channels deliver four times the pixel count of Full HD 1080p. All footage is encoded using HEVC (H.265) for strong image quality at efficient file sizes, with H.264 (AVC) available as an alternative for compatibility with older playback devices.

Smart Parking Mode - 24/7 Protection

The ELITE 8 2CH offers three Parking Mode options. Power Saving Mode draws under 1mA of current and wakes within one second when an impact is detected, making it the most battery-friendly choice for extended overnight sessions. Motion Detection Mode starts recording on both cameras whenever movement enters the camera field. Time Lapse Mode compresses activity over longer periods into a manageable file without filling the card.

A 10-second pre-event buffer runs continuously on both cameras, so when the G-sensor fires and an Event clip is saved it includes the full 10 seconds before the impact on both the front and rear channels. Up to 50 Event files are protected from normal loop overwrite. Built-in battery protection keeps your vehicle safe during extended sessions: a timer cut-off between 1 and 48 hours, a low voltage cut-off configurable from 11.8V to 12.5V for passenger vehicles, and a high-temperature cut-off at approximately 70 degrees C. Please note: Parking Mode requires either a hardwire connection to a constant 12V supply (hardwire cable sold separately) or the optional BlackVue B-130A battery pack or BlackVue B-112 battery pack. The supplied cigarette lighter cable does not support Parking Mode in most vehicles.

BlackVue Cloud - Stay Connected to Your Vehicle

The ELITE 8 2CH is compatible with BlackVue Cloud, accessible through the free BlackVue App on iOS and Android. When an internet connection is available, the app provides Remote Live View from either camera, Remote Video Playback to review footage without removing the card, GPS Tracking to follow your vehicle's location history, Emergency Notifications when the G-sensor detects an impact, and Video Backup to copy clips to cloud storage or your phone. Two-way voice communication is available via the built-in speaker and microphone.

The unit connects directly to your smartphone via built-in dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11ac, 2.4GHz and 5GHz). For permanent always-on 4G connectivity - so remote features work even when no local Wi-Fi hotspot is available - the optional CM100GLTE external module can be added using a standard data SIM of your choice. The CM100GLTE is available from our BlackVue accessories page and is sold separately.

Built-in GPS and Impact Detection

Dual-band GPS and GLONASS is built in, tagging every frame from both cameras with accurate speed and location data. Footage plays back in BlackVue Viewer with a live map overlay and G-sensor graph, giving you the context needed for insurance purposes or reviewing an incident. The 3-axis G-sensor detects impacts, hard braking, sharp cornering and sudden acceleration, automatically saving the relevant clips from both channels as Event files and sending an alert via the BlackVue App if connected.

Normal, Event and Parking recording modes cover every driving and parked scenario. An SD Card Failure Alert issues a spoken voice warning through the built-in speaker if the microSD card develops an error, so you always know when recording has been interrupted. Adaptive Format-Free file management improves recording stability and reduces the need for manual card formatting. A scheduled reboot function can restart the unit automatically at a set time each day.

Installation

The front camera mounts on the windscreen interior using the supplied double-sided tape pad. The rear camera connects to the front unit via the included 6-metre coaxial cable and mounts on the rear windscreen interior using a second tape pad. Cable routing clips are included to tuck both cables neatly along the headliner, A-pillar and C-pillar trim. Power for driving use is via the included cigarette lighter cable. For Parking Mode, a hardwire connection to a constant 12V supply is required - hardwire cables are available separately, or the B-130A or B-112 battery packs provide a self-contained power solution that does not require wiring into the fuse box.

BlackVue App and BlackVue Viewer

The free BlackVue App (iOS 15.0 or later, Android 10.0 or later) connects to the ELITE 8 2CH via Wi-Fi for live view, video management, settings adjustment and BlackVue Cloud features. BlackVue Viewer for Windows (Windows 7 or later) and Mac (Sierra OS X 10.12 or later) is also free to download and provides a full desktop interface for video playback with GPS map overlay and G-sensor graph display. Both are available free from BlackVue's website.

BlackVue ELITE 8 2CH FAQs

What is the difference between the BlackVue ELITE 8 2CH and ELITE 9 2CH?

Both models record 2K Quad HD (2560x1440) on the rear camera. The difference is the front camera. The ELITE 8 2CH front camera records at 2K Quad HD (2560x1440) using a 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 sensor. The ELITE 9 2CH upgrades the front camera to 4K UHD (3840x2160) using the higher-specification Sony IMX678 STARVIS 2 sensor at 8.4MP - four times the pixel count of the ELITE 8 front. Choose the ELITE 8 2CH for consistent dual 2K QHD front and rear at the lowest price in the ELITE range. Choose the ELITE 9 2CH if a 4K front camera is a priority.

What is the difference between the BlackVue ELITE 8 2CH and ELITE 10 2CH?

The ELITE 8 2CH records at 2K Quad HD on both the front and rear cameras. The ELITE 10 2CH records at 4K UHD on both cameras using the higher-specification Sony IMX678 STARVIS 2 sensor at 8.4MP on each channel. The ELITE 10 2CH also uses a 12-bit image capture pipeline for superior colour depth and dynamic range on both channels. The ELITE 8 2CH is the more accessible option for buyers who want reliable dual-channel recording with Sony STARVIS 2 technology without the premium of 4K.

Does the BlackVue ELITE 8 2CH have built-in 4G?

No. The ELITE 8 2CH does not have built-in 4G LTE. It connects to your smartphone via built-in dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11ac, 2.4GHz and 5GHz) for local access. Always-on 4G connectivity for remote BlackVue Cloud features requires the optional CM100GLTE external module, sold separately, using a standard data SIM of your choice. The CM100GLTE is available from our BlackVue accessories page.

Does the BlackVue ELITE 8 2CH work without being hardwired for parking mode?

The supplied cigarette lighter cable powers the unit while driving but does not support Parking Mode in most vehicles, as the socket loses power when the ignition is switched off. For Parking Mode you need either a hardwire connection to a constant 12V supply (hardwire cable sold separately) or the optional BlackVue B-130A or BlackVue B-112 battery pack as a self-contained power solution.

What microSD card capacity do I need for the BlackVue ELITE 8 2CH?

The ELITE 8 2CH records two 2K Quad HD streams simultaneously. At the default High quality setting the combined bitrate is lower than a dual-4K system, giving the 64GB card approximately 3-4 hours of loop recording before older files are overwritten. The 256GB card extends this to approximately 12-14 hours. If you use Parking Mode overnight, the 256GB option is recommended. Both cards supplied by ActiveGPS are genuine BlackVue-approved microSD cards.

Is 2K Quad HD good enough quality for a dash cam?

Yes, for the majority of dash cam use cases 2K Quad HD (2560x1440) provides more than sufficient detail. At this resolution, number plates are clearly readable at normal following distances in good light, and HDR processing ensures the image remains balanced in challenging conditions such as bright sunshine, tunnel exits and night driving. 2K QHD delivers four times the resolution of Full HD 1080p. For drivers who specifically need the highest possible front camera detail, the ELITE 9 2CH or ELITE 10 2CH provide 4K UHD on the front camera.

The ELITE 8 2CH is the right choice for buyers who want proven Sony STARVIS 2 dual-channel recording at the most accessible price in the ELITE range. Step up to the ELITE 9 2CH for a 4K front camera. Step up to the ELITE 10 2CH for dual 4K front and rear. For the full range see our BlackVue dash cam comparison table.

Is the BlackVue ELITE 8 2CH worth buying?

The ELITE 8 2CH makes a strong case for buyers entering the ELITE range on a budget. Both cameras use Sony STARVIS 2 sensors with HDR, which means reliable number plate capture and good low-light performance front and rear. The consistency of having matching resolution on both channels is a genuine practical advantage - you know exactly what quality to expect from both cameras in any incident. At under £500 with a 64GB microSD card included, it represents good value for a dual-channel BlackVue with Cloud compatibility and Smart Parking Mode.

It suits drivers who want a capable, no-compromise dual-channel dash cam without paying for 4K; fleet operators who need reliable front and rear coverage across multiple vehicles; and buyers upgrading from older Full HD 1080p cameras who want a meaningful improvement in image quality without the cost of a 4K system. The symmetrical dual-2K setup also appeals to buyers who find mismatched front and rear resolutions unsatisfying.

If front camera quality is the priority and budget allows, the ELITE 9 2CH upgrades the front to 4K UHD for £100 more. For the ultimate dual 4K setup, the ELITE 10 2CH is the step up. For single-channel front-only recording at the same ELITE 8 quality, see the BlackVue ELITE 8 1CH. For personal advice call 01733 777623 Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 5:00pm.
