Garmin Edge Explore 820 is a cycling GPS with a 58.4mm touchscreen. European mapping is provided and the maps include cycle paths, elevation data, points of interest and address search. Smart notifications for receiving calls and texts are available when using a compatible smartphone connection.

The Garmin Edge Explore 820 allows wireless transfer between other Garmin devices to share routes. The battery life is 15 hours (GPS training mode) or 24 hours (UltraTrac mode). 15 hours, it is waterproof to IPX7 standards and it is also shock resistant making it ideal for use on rough terrain when cycling offroad.

The Garmin Edge Explore 820 is a lightweight, compact and shock resistant cycling GPS Satnav which features a European Garmin Cycle Map for turn-by-turn route guidance on and off road. Points of interest also feature on the Edge Explore 820. There is a high-resolution 58.4mm touchscreen which is easy to read in sunlight. Plus the touchscreen is built to work in many weather conditions and will work when used with wet hands (rainy conditions) or when using gloves and more. The Edge Explore 820 is also waterproof to IPX7 standards.

GroupTrack allows you to know the location of all cyclists in your group via the on-screen navigation/tracking.

16GB of internal memory allows you to add additional mapping to the Garmin Edge Explore 820.

There is an optional battery-save mode which extends the battery life up to 50% percent. The options are 15 hours in GPS training mode or 24 hours in UltraTrac mode.

Cycling awareness feature enables you to automatically or manually set this Garmin Cycling sat nav to alert the emergency services as to your GPS location if you are involved in an incident. It does this by using an in-built via integrated accelerometer. The Edge Explore 820 is also compatible with Varia line of cycling awareness accessories (rearview and smart bike lights). Radar can also be used to detect approaching traffic.

A built-in barometer altimeter will tell you the altitude you are cycling at and also help predict the weather conditions.

The Garmin Edge Explore 820 features both GPS and GLONASS satellite navigation making it able to connect to satellites in deep wooded areas or near tall buildings for example.

The Garmin Explore 820 can provide smart notifications (email, SMS, etc.) when connected with a compatible smartphone. Live tracking and Social Media sharing are also available. Plus automatic uploads to Garmin Connect are possible (using Garmin's FREE online fitness community). Unit to unit wireless transfer is also possible.

You can store 200 waypoints/favourites/locations and 100 routes (as courses).

When doing laps of a circuit Auto Lap Mode automatically starts a new lap when you complete a circuit. When cycling Auto Scroll Mode cycles through data pages whilst you are riding your bike. Heart rate calories computation is another feature of the Garmin Explore 820. Temperature readouts are also available on screen whilst you are riding. You can compete against previous activities and set goals to be alerted to such as time and distance alerts. This cycling GPS system will also calculate calories burned.

A bike speed/cadence sensor and heart rate monitor is available with some models.
