The Garmin DriveAssist 50LMT-S is a car satnav with FREE lifetime Europe maps and Garmin Live Traffic (when paired with a compatible smartphone and using Garmin's App). The screen size is 5-inches and it comes with a built-in dash cam. The DriveAssist is also Smartphone compatible allowing hands-free calling and it will display calls, texts and app alerts.

The Garmin DriveAssist 50LMT-S has a built in dash cam which also has additional features. The main function of the dash cam is to continuously record video to capture videos documenting events in the road ahead. In the event of a collision the g-sensor will automatic detect the impact and save the recorded video. You can playback video directly on the device or on a computer. Plus there is a built-in camera for taking photos of incidents or scenic landscapes.

The additional features include Go alert which tells you when traffic has started to move when you are stationary in a traffic jam or at traffic lights. Furthermore if you are driving too close to the vehicle in front you will get a Forward Collision Warning. Lane departure warning also tells you if you drift into oncoming traffic. Lastly, when you reach your destination, an arrow will appear on the 'live dash cam recording screen' to show where your destination is.

The design of the DriveAssist 50LMT-S is elegant in style with a sleek metal body making it ideal for any kind of car interior.

The Garmin Drive Assist is voice activated so you do not need to take your hands off the driving wheel. This Garmin uses Real Directions whereby it uses landmarks (buildings, traffic lights, etc.) to guide you by voice instructions.

Foursquare Points of Interest are also included offering millions of POI's. Additional POI's include speed camera and red light cameras. Up Ahead feature also suggests places to visit along your route without leaving the map view. Real-time information includes weather via a mobile app.

Active Lane Guidance with voice prompts at every exit or junction helps you navigate busy junctions. Brightly coloured arrows on screen also help to show you the way. Birds Eye Junction View provides an overhead view of junctions and PhotoReal Junction View also provides photos of junctions along your route (and surrounding landscape) so you can recognise where you are.

You will also be alerted to sharp curves, speed changes, railway crossings, animal crossings, school zones and if you drive the wrong way up a one way street you will receive notification on screen. The battery life is up to 30 minutes.

Fatigue warning suggests break times and possible rest areas along your route.

The Garmin DriveAssist is compatible with the BC 30 wireless backup camera (sold separately) which allows you to see behind your vehicle so you will not miss vehicles, pedestrians and other obstacles as they will be displayed right on Garmin's display (as you are reversing).

Another useful optional extra accessory is the Garmin BabyCam which you can install to view a baby in rear of car direct on the Garmin sat nav screen.

Garmin Express enables you to update maps and software. You can also transfer favourites and install custom voices.

Installation

The Garmin DriveAssist 50LMT-S includes everything you need to mount and install it in your car. Included when you purchase from ActiveGPS is a Vehicle Suction Cup Mount which is is used to make installing and dismounting your DriveLuxe simple, quick and easy.

The most popular place to locate the satnav is at the bottom, middle of the windscreen where you can see the satnav easiest. Plus the satnavs dash cam will have a good view of the road ahead.

Question: Will this mount be suitable for the Garmin Drive Assist 50 (Dash cam) Product Code: GARPFM?

Answer: Yes, however to complete the installation will require two parts:

1. Garmin DriveAssist 50 Portable Friction Mount (GARPFM)
2. Garmin DriveAssist 50 Suction Cup Mount (GDA50SCM)

The Garmin DriveAssist 50 Suction Cup Mount CRADLE which detaches from the windscreen suction cup mount (GDA50SCM), simply attaches to the ball joint of the Garmin DriveAssist 50 Portable Friction Mount (GARPFM).

Online we say: "Please note: The Garmin DriveAssist 50 mount cradle (which was originally supplied the DriveAssist 50) is also required to complete the installation and clicks into place on the portable friction mounts ball joint on the end of arm."

Answer: Being based in the UK, the region we buy in from Garmin UK is the 'European' map model.

We can however supply the Garmin DriveAssist 50LM (above) preloaded with European maps and separately sell you the SD/microSD Card for the Middle East and Northern Africa.

The Middle East and Northern Africa SD/microSD Card then inserts directly into the Garmin DriveAssist 50LM.
