Mount your Garmin DriveAssist 50LM to your vehicles windscreen by buying this authentic Garmin accessory that has been designed specifically for the Garmin DriveAssist 50 and a number of other compatible Garmin nuvi models.

How to use the mount

Mounting your Garmin DriveAssist 50 to your vehicles windscreen is easy. In the box (when you buy from ActiveGPS) you will find two parts:

‣Unit mount
‣Suction cup mount

Simply press the unit mount onto the suction cup until it snaps into place, you can also reverse this process to detach the two parts. Why would you want to detach? See 'Alternative mounting options' further down this page.

Next, press the suction cup to the windscreen, and flip the lever back toward the windscreen.

Finally, to power your Garmin DriveAssist 50 plug the vehicle power cable, which is sold separately, into the mini USB port on the back of your sat nav.

Powering your Garmin DriveAssist 50

To power and charge your Garmin DriveAssist 50LM in your vehicle you will also need to buy (or already have) the Garmin DriveAssist 50 vehicle power cable. The vehicle power cable plugs directly into the back of the Garmin DriveAssist 50 sat nav.

Alternatively, and if you'd like to receive (or continue to receive) traffic alerts, then you will need to the buy the Garmin GTM 36 FM Traffic Receiver. The GTM 36 includes a vehicle power cable for charging and powering the Garmin DriveSmart 50 and a built-in traffic receiver with lifetime subscription. The GTM 36 connects in the same way as the aforementioned vehicle power cable.

Alternative mounting options

By using the unit mount/cradle supplied with the Garmin DriveAssist 50 suction cup mount you can also use it with either of the following two mounting options. Neither of the mounting options below include the Garmin DriveAssist 50 cradle.

Portable friction mount

Enables you to mount your Garmin DriveAssist 50 directly on top of your vehicles dashboard. The portable friction mount doesn't require suction or adhesive, and therefore doesn't leave any trace when it's not in use.

Garmin DriveAssist 50 suction cup mount Questions and Answers

Question: I have just purchased a Garmin DriveAssist with the 5.0-inch screen and want to know if there is an alternative vehicle suction cup mount whereby can plug charger cable into rather than the back of the sat nav?

Alternatively is there a short extension charging cable with a male to female connection?

Answer: Unfortunately for the Garmin DriveAssist the vehicle power cable plugs directly into the back of the sat nav. All of the stock we sell is genuine Garmin, we therefore don't sell any alternative suction cup mounts and nor do we sell a short extension charging cable with a male to female connection that you could use. If you telephone 0808 238 0000 and speak directly with Garmin UK they might be able to assist you?

Question: I have a Garmin DriveAssist 50 with which I wish to mount on the dashboard. I cannot see how your Portable Friction Mount GARPFM (pictured right) will not obstruct the dash-cam lens, unless the sat-nav unit is positioned upside down and there is a way of inverting the screen display. Please explain!

Answer: As you correctly point out, the camera will not be able to see 'through' the upright ball joint. We will only list accessories that Garmin also list as being compatible with the DriveAssist 50 and we have spoken to Garmin querying the friction mount. They agree that the camera will not be useable with this method of mounting but they justify listing this mount as you can still use the DriveAssist as a GPS satnav - but without the camera function.

So, the only mount to use with access to all facilities is the original DriveAssist vehicle suction cup mount.
