GPS - Global Positioning System
ActiveGPS products are divided into two distinct product categories SATNAV and GPS. Global Positioning System (GPS) devices (which this page covers) utilise a network of 24 orbiting satellite technology high above the earth to help pinpoint and track where you are, whereas sat nav devices primarily route you from A to B. GPS which was originally developed by the U.S. Department of Defense is today used in a growing number of consumer electrical devices including help with alerts to speed camera locations, hiking and geocaching, navigating coastal waters and tracking where a valuable asset or person is. Established in 2005 we're a UK retailer with worldwide delivery for the latest GPS systems. Wherever you intend to use your GPS device we have the ideal GPS system for your requirements. Specifically, we retail GPS based speed camera detectors, dash cams, handheld systems, marine handhelds and chartplotters, cycling computers, Golf GPS range finders and action cameras.
GPS speed camera detectors utilise a database of GPS co-ordinates of either UK, European or Worldwide speed camera locations. The GPS device will then alert you to fixed and mobile speed camera locations in the database. Each database requires a subscription to be paid. Some speed camera detectors also include radar and/or laser detection to detect 'LIVE' mobile speed camera locations too. The radar and laser detectors will warn you to live in-use mobile speed cameras in the road ahead. We sell the latest 2017 speed camera detectors from the leading sat nav brands Cheetah, Road Angel and Snooper.

Dash cams that we sell can be used in cars, vans, lorries, etc to record events in the road ahead. Some dash cams will also record events with a view from the rear of your vehicle. You can then be rest assured that the dashboard camera will capture all events in happening along your journey(s). Many of the dashboard cameras include parked mode that records events whilst your vehicle is parked. With a few of the dash cams that we sell you can also be alerted to speed camera locations but because speed camera detection is not the primary function of these GPS systems they are not as 'feature-rich' as a dedicated speed camera detector.

Handheld GPS systems are perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you are walking, hiking, mountaineering or you want to use a GPS for navigating on a boat. You will be able to find your GPS position on a map (maps are often sold separately) via the colour screen on the handheld device. Many of the top models also include barometer, altimeter and compass. If you are geocaching then these handheld systems will be very useful as many offer paperless geocaching and also come preinstalled with geocaching locations.

Chartplotters provide the ultimate marine information via a dedicated device with a screen size of up to 7-inches. The majority of chartplotters when brought from ActiveGPS are also bundled with BlueCharts g2 marine charts. It's also possible to add a transducer to chartplotters with sounders too, which when connected will provide you with a live view of the seabed beneath your boat.

Handheld devices provide more basic (but essential) information such as sunrise/sunset times, speed, bearing and position. Plus it's possible to add BlueChart marine charts to most models too, so when you are out at sea you'll know exactly where you are.
