MCX External GPS Antenna

The MCX low profile GPS antenna provides you with the ability to achieve a GPS signal when your units built-in GPS receiver is unable to lock onto enough satellites.

With 16.4 feet (5 metres) of cabling you can site the GPS antenna where it can clearly see the sky above and the orbiting GPS (Global Positioning System) satellites.

What's more the external GPS antenna is completely waterproof and its base is magnetic, so you can position it on the outside of a vehicle very easily.

All Garmin sat navs and other GPS devices require a clear line of sight of earth orbiting GPS satellites to function properly. Without seeing these your sat nav, handheld or other device simply won't work.

Naturally out of a vehicle picking up the required three GPS satellites isn't an issue. However inside your car, van, lorry, etc that may be a very different story? Non reception could be down to a number of issues including and most commonly: the type of windscreen your vehicle e.g. heated or the position of your sat nav in your vehicle.

Most sat navs are sited on the vehicles windscreen (windshield) using a suction cup mount; this is the best place as plain glass allows the GPS signal to be picked up by the Garmin's built-in GPS receiver.

Problems arise when it's not possible to attach to the windscreen or the windscreen has materials blocking the GPS signal. The answer is to buy the GA 25 MCX low profile remote GPS antenna.

IMPORTANT: - The Garmin GA 25 MCX External GPS Antenna has been discontinued by Garmin. We are supplying customers with a Navman equivalent MCX antenna. The only difference between the two cables is the Garmin GA 25 had a right-angled connection, the Navman MCX has a straight connection.

Please note: Garmin nuvi sat nav models since the Garmin nuvi 800 series (discontinued in 2008) no longer feature the means to connect the MCX antenna or any other GPS antenna. The reason for this is two fold; firstly as units have got slimmer the necessary space required for the MCX connector isn't available. Secondly with advances in technology, GPS receivers have become more sensitive working through a windscreen which might have hampered earlier sat navs.
