The update comes supplied on a preprogrammed SD card, which when inserted into your compatible device provides you with up-to-date detailed electronic nautical charts. Marine chart data also includes navaids, port plans, depth contours, fishing contours, spot soundings and more.

How to install the marine update card

To update maps using this update card:

1. Press the Power key to turn on the device. Do not turn off the device during the update process.

2. After the Home screen appears, insert the card into the device. The Data Card screen appears.

3. If software does not support reading the built-in map update from the card, the following message will appear: "Map Format Is Not Supported.

4. Acknowledge this message.

5. Select "Update Software" to update the device's software. The update process takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Your compatible Garmin chartplottter will now recognise the new map format.

Garmin BlueChart g2 UK and Ireland Update Card Questions and Answers

Question: Does the UK chart update via an sd card delete all my waypoint information or is that retained?

Does the sd card have to remain in the GPSMAP 551 chartplotter after the update?

Up to what date does the new map include the latest notices to mariners?

Answer: The UK BlueChart Update card only updates the preloaded charts and does not delete any waypoint information, etc.

Once the update is completed you do not need to keep the SD card inserted in your GPSMAP 551 - simply store it in case you need it in future.

The latest update chart was released August last year. There is a new BlueChart g3 Update Card being launched in late February (this month) which will be a g3 version. You may like to wait until this is available before buying the update the card?

Answer: As our we say above the BlueChart update card is a special order item and normally takes 5 days or more to come into stock. We do not carry this map in stock, as we like to ensure customers receive the very latest BlueChart update card from Garmin. We have the update card on order with Garmin UK and stock is expected this week. I will email again to advice when your BlueChart update card has been dispatched to you.

Question: I am looking to update the charts on my Garmin 750s Chart Plotter. Your website is clear on what I need to do but I have one question is the the latest issue of the appropriate charts?

Answer: We list the Garmin Bluechart g2 UK and Ireland Chart Update SD card as 'Special Order'. The reason being we like to ensure our customers receive the very latest available version from Garmin. Should a newer version be released by Garmin UK at the time a customer places an order, then our 'Special Order' approach will ensure a customer receive the latest version. Special Order maps generally take 5 working days to come into stock.
