The ICOM M35 is a buoyant VHF marine handheld transceiver. The ICOM features an easy to see LCD (32 x 16 mm) and the display has key backlighting for use in dark conditions, for example at night time. The 2 digit channel number is displayed large on screen. Large buttons feature on the ICOM radio and with a slender design body the ICOM is natural to handle. The M35 is waterproof to a depth of 1 metre for 30 minutes and it will also float without being damaged. AquaQuake draining function is an additional feature which uses low frequency sound waves to clean the microphone and speaker of water after you have submersed the ICOM radio in water. It is not designed to be used underwater.
There is an external soft flexible antenna supplied with the ICOM M35 handheld transceiver.
The sound received by the ICOM can be adjusted to make it clearer to understand. This feature is called 'Clear Audio Boost.' There are two main functions which are Clear Voice and Voice Boost. The ICOM M35 will compensate for ambient noise level such as engine noise or roar of the waves. The result is high quality audio when sending and receiving conversation with the M35 radio. Furthermore you can use the LOUD button to further amplify the sound to full volume. Holding the LOUD button also mutes the radio.
The volume of the ICOM M35 will adjust automatically. There is a noise cancelling headphone which consists of a sub-microphone on the rear panel. which is used to cancel out ambient noise (from the main microphone). This makes voice communication clearly and easier to hear with clarity. With this feature the volume will be adjusted automatically. Noise cancellation does not work when an optional external speaker-microphone is connected.
There is a bridge-tied load (BTL) audio amplifier to increase audio output. An internal speaker delivers a loud 700mW (typical) audio output with clear sound even in noisy environments.
There are 55 voice channels with the ICOM radio which includes simplex and duplex channels. Simplex allows you to communicate with other boats, ships or yachts. Duplex channels are generally a shore based communication channels whereby you can talk with a shore-based radio. When using a duplex channel this will be indicated on screen.
The ICOM M35 features 6W RF output with low power consumption resulting in 8 hours of operating time with the supplied 980mAh Lithium-Ion battery pack. There is also a 4 step battery life indicator.
Other features of the ICOM M35 include quick access favourite channel function, Dual/tri-watch function for monitoring Ch.16 (distress channel) and/or a call channel. Instant access to Ch 16 or programmable call channel is also available. Auto scan function also features.
The ICOM M35 is also compatible with the optional HM-165 microphone.
