Garmin chirp Geocaching Beacon

Product Code: GARCGB

The Garmin chirp is a small wireless beacon designed for geocaching.

To use simply locate the chirp beacon in a geocache location. When other people using a compatible wireless-enabled Garmin handheld GPS device comes within 10 metres of the location, chirp then confirms the geocache is nearby, offers hints, counts visitors and more.

Furthermore it is password protected so that only you can program the chirp beacon. Thanks to its size it's very easy to hide as well, has a battery life of 1 year and is waterproof to IPX7 standards.

Garmin wireless Chirp Beacon

The Garmin chirp wireless beacon enables you to program digital information such as hints and tips e.g. "to find the cache look at the base of tree" at a geocache location via your compatible Garmin handheld system. When a fellow geocacher comes within 10 metres of the geocache and your hidden chirp beacon and if they are also using a Garmin unit with wireless technology your information can be viewed by them. Pictured right: approx actual size.

When any compatible Garmin GPS device is in range, the chirp beacon stores and records:

‣hints
‣multicache co-ordinates
‣counts visitors
‣confirms the cache is nearby

This information is all safely stored on the password protected chirp itself, which needs to be left at the geocache location at all times. Being durable, very small at 33mm x 23mm x 7mm, waterproof and with a battery life of one year, it's very easy to leave and locate at a geocache location.

Please note: The images above are screen shots taken from a Garmin Oregon device. On-screen images may differ slightly when viewed on a different Garmin device e.g. Garmin Montana device.

The amount of information programmable into the Garmin chirp is quite comprehensive. You can load a name, hints and other information regarding each geocache location. You can also enter multicache coordinates, which can be loaded into a compatible Garmin system at the press of a button when you reach a geocache rather than having to enter multiple coordinates into you device as with paper geocaching. The chirp transmits coordinates every two seconds for each location.

If you are searching for a Chirp geocache site, prior to reaching your destination, you should turn on 'chirp searching' on your Garmin device by selecting "Show chirp Details".

The Garmin chirp confirms caches are nearby and has a range of about 10 metres. It will even count the number of visitors to each geocache location.

The Chirp has a battery life of 1 year and batteries are easy to change. When the Garmin Chirps' battery is low a message will appear on your compatible Garmin device.

When you are attaching the chirp to a container you should use the adhesive mount provided. The chirp should not be mounted within a metal container and should not be buried or put into water.
